Rescued Reese
Reese was so happy to find her forever home with her new brother - Ross.
Although chocolate is extremely toxic to dogs and cats, we couldn't help but gush over the chocolate bar themed names for these brown-furred pups. These 6 pups were found in the bushes in Red Lake, AZ (about 25 miles northeast of Tuba City), and were rescued at the beginning of May.
“Remote area, no momma dog around, pups smelled like sheep, young and small, seemed dumped. Dr. Holgate estimated they were 6 weeks old, weighed 3-5 pounds, all had ticks in their ears. They got named Coco, Kit, Hershey, M&M, Reese, and Snicker-5 males, 1 female.”
PWNA’s RAR partner, Tuba City Humane Society (TCHS) has been extremely busy in 2020, and to make things more challenging during a health pandemic, the number of their foster homes has decreased.
"We lost some foster homes in the spring as people moved away from the Rez, which was an early hotspot for COVID-19. We are down to just a few foster homes in Tuba City itself… we are challenged to help more animals with fewer volunteers, basically having to rely more on the few we do have, and (rely) more on partner rescues to take more transfers.”
Thanks to the support of our wonderful donors, Tuba City received a grant from PWNA’s RAR Animal Welfare service to help them through the summer and fall months. This funding was a lifeline to our four-legged friends and makes the work of the humans helping them a little easier.
Coco, Kit, Hershey, M&M, Reese, and Snicker were found abandoned at the beginning of May.
A majority of RAR's rescue funding goes towards veterinarian costs. For TCHS, Dr. Holgate (RAR's Chairperson), is one of their go-to vet clinics and provides much of the care needed for animals before they are adopted. One of the chocolate-themed pups (Reese) received care from Dr. Holgate during July— the first month the grant was funded.
The funding helped to support over $300 in vet bills for Reese and once her regiment was completed, she was placed on Petfinder at the beginning of August. By mid-August, a family traveled from Colorado to Flagstaff, AZ to meet Reese and adopt her. Everyone knows Reese’s cups bring together two favorites flavors: chocolate and peanut butter, creating a dynamic duo. In this re-homing of Reese, she was united with another TCHS Alum, Ross and they will certainly complement each other as they bring joy to one another and their humans!
